Dr. Ayo Peter Olowonihi

Born in Kabba, Kogi State, Nigeria, Dr Ayodele Peter Olowonihi attended St Augustine College Kabba.
He thereafter proceeded to the University of Jos and Lagos State University (Nigeria) where he obtained B.Sc. Economics and Masters in Public Administration (MPA) respectively. Dr Olowonihi holds a PhD in National Security and Strategic Studies from City University, Cambodia. He also obtained a Post Graduate Certificate in Corruption Studies from the University of Hong Kong, Certificate on Better Governance: Managing Corruption from the Singapore Civil Service College, Certificate in Mastering Competitive Strategy and Blue Ocean Strategy from the Lagos Business School. He is also a grandaunt of the Policy, Strategy and Leadership (PreSEC) Course of the prestigious National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies, (NIPSS), Kuru – Jos, Nigeria.

Joined the services of the National Drug Law enforcement Agency (NDLEA) at inception in 1990 and attended the first Senior Officer’s Basic Course – ANS Course 1/90.

Widely travelled, Dr Olowonihi attended numerous Professional Courses and Management Seminars in Nigeria and many countries across the world.

While in the NDLEA, Dr Olowonihi held Command Appointments such as the Acting Director, General and Assets Investigation, Served Two Terms as Commandant of the NDLEA Academy, and Officer-In-Charge Training, Research and Development at Agency Headquarters. He also held Operational Appointments such as Zonal Commander, Murtala Muhammed International Airport Lagos and Commander Kogi State Command. He was also appointed the Coordinator, National Drug Control Strategy, Director, Abuja Liaison Services, amongst others.

Transferred his services to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in May 2005. Served as the pioneer Deputy Director/Head of Training at the EFCC Academy and was at one time the Head of the Special Control Unit Against Money Laundering. (SCUML).

Acquired diverse experience spanning over thirty three (33) years in Law Enforcement, Investigations, Anti-Corruption and Good Governance, Personnel Management, Leadership, Training and Manpower Development, before retiring in November 2023.

Dr Olowonihi is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Forensics and Certified Fraud Investigators of Nigeria (CIFCFIN), Associate Member, Institute of Chartered Economists of Nigeria (ICEN) and Member, National Institute of Training and Development (NITAD). He is also a recipient of Commendations by the Executive Chairmen of both the NDLEA and the EFCC.

Married with Children, Dr Olowonihi retired as a Director/Commandant of the EFCC Academy.

Dr Olowonihi is currently serving as a Consultant on Training with the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) where he has produced forty nine (49) trained trainers and has also developed a comprehensive curriculum for basic law enforcement training and an accompanying training materials for the implementation of the curriculum.
